Hello! My name is Jacob Wheeler and I am an undergraduate chemical engineering major from Bel Air, Maryland. I have always loved science, engineering, and mathematics as well as being a leader. Going into college, I hoped to further these passions by majoring in a field that I truly enjoy, and by joining the Public Leadership Scholars program. As a member of the Public Leadership Scholars program, I hope to gain improved leadership skills. I want to then use these skills in my future profession to help create and develop new chemical processes as a chemical engineer. I also hope to gain improved social skills and emotional intelligence. These skills are invaluable in the real world and I believe that this program can help me develop these skills. As a chemical engineering major, I hope to gain valuable skills that I can carry with me into the workforce. These skills will help me to become the best engineer I can be, and they will allow me to engineer for change. I also hope to formulate lifelong connections with my fellow engineers and STEM professionals in the real world. Overall, throughout my college experience, I hope to gain relevant skills that will allow me to succeed in my future career as a chemical engineer.  - November 15th, 2020
